The letter must have been written in the week after Van Gogh’s visit to Van der Weele, which took place on 11 March; see ‘last Sunday’
(l. 2) and
letter 327. Moreover, Van Gogh assumes that Van Rappard is also having ‘winter weather’ again
(l. 59) in Utrecht. After temperatures rose briefly above zero on the 13th and 14th, the cold returned on the 15th and 16th; it was warmer again on the 17th and 18th (
KNMI). We therefore date this letter to Thursday, 15 or Friday, 16 March 1883.
