This letter must have been written in April 1884, since Van Rappard had replied to the invitation to come to Nuenen – see letter 443, which dates from about 28 March – that he would come in May (ll. 23-26). Assuming that he would not have delayed replying to the invitation too long, the letter will most likely have been written towards the beginning of April 1884.
